Photography
Colvin began his photography pursuit in earnest in 2003, as the photographer used for promotional materials for the band Divebomb Honey, Ben and Sheela's Punk Rock Wedding, and the photographer for the Twin Cities Wire. Shortly thereafter, he took part in his first exhibition, at a show titled "Is This Art or Is This Punk" at Rudie's Coffeeshop in St. Paul.
The early part of the decade saw Colvin involved in numerous projects related to bands and compilation albums.
As he began branching into model photography, and demands began to increase, he opened his studio in early 2005.
In 2007, he co-founded the Minnesota Photography Group, a volunteer group of photography enthusiasts, who share instruction and critiques. The same year, he began holding workshops, networking events and private photography instruction.
His photography generally features moody, expressionist lighting techniques, often with significant contrast.

Paintings and other art
In his late teens through mid-20s, Colvin was a fairly prolific painter and sketch artist. However, since the late 1990s, he has almost exclusively focused on photography, and only a few of his early paintings and sketches exist today.
Writing and publishing
Colvin's most significant undertaking in writing and publishing was the Twin Cities Wire, which he edited and produced from early 2003 to late 2005. He wrote the majority of articles, maintained the website, created paper copies, and distributed them with the help of other regular volunteer contributors.
As the Wire's editor, he participated in the first annual Zine Fest at Stevens Square Arts Center.
Colvin has also authored some press releases and training materials for Allina Hospitals and Clinics.
